Prodelta, the national school of free flight under the certification #12 of the AeCI, was founded in 1976 near Castelluccio di Norcia through a collaboration of hang gliding pioneers of free flight. As the objective of the school was and is to share the passion of this sport through instruction, Castelluccio di Norcia was chosen because of its ideal topography and wind conditions. It has become well-known not only in Italy but in other European countries where many free flight schools bring their students to Castelluccio di Norcia to have their first experience with flight.

In 1978, Claudio Papa, one of the original founders, became director of the school. His method of instruction obtains optimum results through emphasis in not only the basic methods of taking off from a slope, landing and prolonged distance flight, but also the fundamentals of flying safely as well as emergency procedures.

In 1989, PRODELTA opened a winter location near Poggiobustone (RI), in addition to the summer school of Castelluccio di Norcia.

In 1999, PRODELTA opened another center in Rome.

The school's professional staff is thoroughly trained, familiar with and certified in the latest free flight techniques and equipment.
